첫 솔로 앨범으로 음악성과 대중성을 동시에 인정받은 정용화가 2016년 1월 보컬리스트 선우정아와 교감(交感) 프로젝트를 선보이며 또 다른 음악적 시도에 나섰다. 두 아티스트는 서로에게서 받은 영감을 다른 색깔의 하모니로 풀어낸 정용화의 '입김', 선우정아의 '불꽃놀이'를 동시에 발표하며 음악적 교감을 완성했다.
" 첫 솔로 앨범인 [어느 멋진 날]에서 다양한 콜라보레이션을 했지만 유독 여성 아티스트와의 작업은 없었다. 그래서인지 여성 아티스트와 콜라보레이션을 할 기회가 있다면 누구와 함께 하고 싶냐는 질문을 자주 받았고 그럴 때마다 늘 선우정아와 함께 하고 싶다고 말했다. 이번 곡을 쓰면서 일면식도 없었던 선우정아를 염두하고 썼고 단순한 피처링이 아닌 함께 완성시키는 진정한 의미의 콜라보레이션이 되길 바라면서 가사는 남겨두었다. 어느 정도 준비를 마치고 회사를 통해 제안 했을 때 선우정아도 나에게 콜라보레이션 제안을 하려고 써놓은 곡이 있다는 답변을 받았다."
"얼마 뒤 나는 미완성된 [입김]을, 선우정아는 미완성된 [불꽃놀이]를 건넸고 이 프로젝트를 본격적으로 준비하기 시작했다. 사실 '입김'은 곡을 쓸 때 떠올린 단어이자 이미지였는데 선우정아도 마음에 들어 했고 함께 가사를 썼다. 비교적 짧은 시간에 마음에 드는 가사가 완성되었다."
"프로젝트 [교감]을 작업하며 느낀 선우정아는 정말 감각적인 아티스트라는 것이다. 음 한음 한음, 소리 하나하나를 디테일 하게 표현했고, 음악을 매우 세밀하게 대하는 아티스트였다. 그런 아티스트와 음악적 교감을 함께 해 기쁘고 많은 자극이 되었다."

Jung Yonghwa, who received both critical and popular acclaim with his first solo album, embarked on a new musical challenge in January 2016 with ‘Project Empathy’ with vocalist Sunwoo Jung-A. The two artists achieved musical connection by simultaneously releasing ‘Breath’ by Jung Yonghwa and ‘Fireworks’ by Sunwoo Jung-A, works inspired by each other and expressed in distinct colors of harmony.
“For my first solo album, ‘One Fine Day,’ I tried multiple collaborations, but there was none with a female artist. Perhaps because of that, I was often asked who I would like to work with if given the opportunity. I would always answer, 'I want to work with Sunwoo Jung-A'. I wrote this song with her on my mind, without even having met her once. Hoping for it to be a true collaboration where we complete it together and not just ‘featuring’, I left the lyrics incomplete. After finishing my preparation to a point, when I suggested (the collaboration) through my agency, I received the answer that Sunwoo Jung-A has also written a song to suggest collaboration with me.”
“A while later, I sent my incomplete ‘Breath’ and Sunwoo Jung-A sent her incomplete ‘Fireworks’, beginning the actual preparation for this project. ‘Breath’ is both the word and the image that came to my mind when I composed the song. SWJA also liked it and we wrote the lyrics together. In quite a short period of time, we were satisfied with the completed lyrics.”
“During the process of Project Empathy, I felt that SWJA is a very sensible artist. She expressed each musical note and sound in a very detailed way. She’s an artist that has a very meticulous approach to music. I was happy to be able to connect with an artist like her and the experience gave me a lot of stimulation as well.

Thanks for the translation. Actually I was curious about this noona's music after YH first mentioned her in an interview. I love how YH does collaboration ... breathing music together and creating fireworks in the process ... hope this collaboration will set a new frontier in kpop

Thank you so much for the translation. I find it fascinating how Yong Hwa creates music, and who or what inspires him in the process. This collaboration will be ground breaking and I can't wait to listen to the releases. I think it will be so interesting to compare and contrast the 2 songs and to try to identify the common ground.
