씨엔블루는 ‘FNC 킹덤 인 서울’ 콘서트에서 최고의 히트곡인 ‘외톨이야’를 부르지 않았다. 리드미컬한‘외톨이야‘ 외에도 ‘직감’도 부르지 않았다.

FNC 킹덤 패밀리 공연을 끝낸 3일 늦은 밤 ‘쫑파티‘에서 이를 궁금히 여긴 한 스태프가 씨엔블루의 정용화에게 왜 ‘외톨이야’를 부르지 않았는지를 물었다.

“‘외톨이야‘는 그동안 너무 많이 불렀어요. 식상하게 느껴질 수도 있잖아요.” 

씨엔블루는 2~3일 열린 패밀리 콘서트에서 새로운 모습을 보여주기 위해 초기 최고의 히트작을 레퍼토리에서 지웠다. 끊임없이 새로운 음악을 만들어가며, 부르고 있다는 점을 보여주기 위함이다. ‘외톨이야’, ‘직감’은 김도훈이 작곡한 씨엔블루의 초기 히트곡이다. 씨엔블루는 이날 9곡 전곡을 멤버들이 작곡한 노래로 불렀다. 씨엔블루 최고의 히트곡이라 할 수 있는 노래를 콘서트에서 부르지 않았다는 사실은 어쩌면 아티스트로서의 씨엔블루의 음악적 색깔을 보이겠다는 의지의 발로이자 자신만의 음악적 색깔의 자신감이라 할 수 있다. 씨엔블루는 비주얼을 갖춘 기획형 아이돌그룹이지만 동시에 록밴드로서 음악적 지평을 넓혀가고 있기도 하다.

이종현이 작사 작곡한 ‘블라인드 러브‘를 제외한 8곡 모두 정용화가 직접 작사 작곡했는데, 정용화는 ‘캔트 스톱’만으로도 관객 전체를 한순간에 끌어들이는 힘을 발휘했다. 

정용화는 키보드를 치며 첫 곡으로 ‘필링‘을 선보였다. 모던하고 댄디해서 더욱 깔끔하게 느껴졌다. 이어 종현의 빠른 기타 리프가 돋보이며 역동적이고 거대한 사운드를 만들어내는 ‘다이아몬드 걸’과 ‘커피숍‘ ’아임 쏘리’ ‘레이디’ ‘트라이 어게인 스마일 어게인’ 등 세련된 멜로디의 곡들을 불러 음악성과 대중성 모두를 보여주었다.

정용화는 키보드와 기타를 자유자재로 연주하며 무대 전체를 휘젖고 다녔다. 청바지, 청셔츠에 예쁜 반짝이 회색 운동화를 신은 정용화는 시간이 가면서 셔츠의 깃과 등이 땀으로 흠뻑 젖었다. 남자가 흘리는 땀이 이렇게 멋있는지를 처음 보았다.

The reason CNBLUE didn’t sing ‘I’m a Loner’ at the FNC concert

At ‘FNC Kingdom in Seoul’ concert, CNBLUE didn’t sing their biggest hit song, “I’m a Loner.” In addition to the rhythmical “Loner,” they didn’t sing “Intuition” either.

At the late-night afterparty which followed the FNC Kingdom family concert, a curious staff asked Jung Yonghwa why they didn’t sing “Loner.”

“We’ve sung ‘Loner’ too many times already. It might seem redundant.”

To show a new dimension, CNBLUE removed their early hits from the repertoire at the family concert. This was in order to showcase that they continue to create and sing new music. “I’m a Loner” and “Intuition” are early hit songs written by Kim Dohoon. CNBLUE filled all of their 9 songs that day with the members' own compositions. 

Perhaps the fact that they didn’t sing CNBLUE’s top hits at the concert attests to their will to show CNBLUE’s own musical color as well as the confidence they have in it. Though a visually appealing idol group that has been produced, CNBLUE is nevertheless broadening their musical horizon as a rock band.

Aside from “Blind Love,” written and composed by Lee Jong Hyun, the other 8 songs are all composed and written by Jung Yonghwa himself. With “Can’t Stop,” Jung powerfully captivated the entire audience at once.

Playing the keyboard, Jung Yonghwa showcased “feeling” as the first song. Sounding modern and dandy, it was very neat. Followed by Jong Hyun’s fast guitar riffs, dynamic and grand sounds from tracks with trendy melodies such as “Diamond girl,” “Coffee Shop,” “I’m sorry,” “Lady,” and “Try again smile again” displayed both musicality and mass appeal.

Jung Yonghwa commanded the keyboard and the guitar at ease, sweeping the whole stage. Wearing jeans and a denim shirt with pretty shiny gray sneakers, the collar and the back of Jung’s shirt became soaked in sweat over time. It was the first time that I realized that a man’s beads of sweat could be as gorgeous.
