【E】 Can't Stop - by 이기선 of Izm

Before I started to read the review, the length of the article put my mind relatively at ease. It was not an easy dismissal after all. I take it as a very encouraging sign from a serious music critic. The reviewer painted an objective picture of a precarious position the band has been in the Korean music scene, and the long road ahead of them. But it is a hopeful picture. He/she recognizes the passion and the talent of the band and pushes them ahead. As for the high marks for Can't Stop and Diamond Girl, I have to say I am always impressed with YH's precise self evaluation of his music. He knows exactly what he is doing. Let's hope he is satisfied with his accomplishment this time. It was a brave move!

I like that the review acknowledges the progress shown by the album. But I don't understand why the reviewer criticizes the limited choice of subject but doesn't care to look at "Like A Child". Hope it's not misunderstood to be a love song (like a certain English speaking reviewer did). I wonder why vocal performances aren't reviewed. As a big fan of Yonghwa's vocal skills, I'd like to know what serious critics have to say about that.
As Yonghwa is a producer of the album too, I feel particularly proud that this is a positive review. -

after reading this ,i think that yonghwa chooses can't stop to be the title song is quite sagacious.in a long run this change may let us see more than before .yonghwa always say he is trying new kinds of music .in a longer perspect, there is never a failure. fear leads to failure

good read. thanks for sharing. as expected people have different taste/preference in music. for non-title track, the reviewer here recommended diamond girl, i saw previous reviewer likes like a child. fans and non-fans i encounter prefer so much cold love as alternative title track. whether what song it only means that this album is really daebak. i have seen numerous reviews that said that this album shows really a good progression of cnblue music. it great to see that this reviewer didnt dismiss cnblue's music and look forward to it

Fair review. I'm happy their music is being taken seriously enough by a lot of people to even get a review, and not just dismissed as a random kpop product that does not deserve a second look/listen/critic.
tbh Diamond Girl is not a favourite of mine (the main melody line sounded a bit formulaic to me) but I can see how the musical arrangement, the 'latin music' reminding beat, the breakdown and their voices can make it a critics' and some fans' favourite.
Here's to wishing CNB continues to evolve and conquer new admirers/fans. -

It's a fair review to a certain extent, but I can't help to think that the reviewer is still a little bias towards them just because they happen to be good looking as well - 'they chose to garner mass popularity with their looks'. Having good looks does not reduce their talent so why is it necessary to mention this point? Must all talented and serious musicians be ugly?
I think the success of CNBLUE is precisely because they have songs that appeal to a wide spectrum of people, and that is why different people have chosen different songs in this album as their favourite. Anyway still good to know that there are music reviewers out there starting to take note of CNBLUE and Yong Hwa's composing ability. He is steadily gaining recognition and that's what counts. -
" 'they chose to garner mass popularity with their looks'. Having good looks does not reduce their talent so why is it necessary to mention this point? Must all talented and serious musicians be ugly? "
my thoughts exactly... -
Agree with you :) It seems like there is prejudice against cnblue for their good looks :( However, i'm glad that yonghwa and cnblue's music are garnering interest from the public ^^ Slowly but surely towards the "top of the world"!
Finally, a serious review from a neutral critic. He's not a fan of their music, obviously. On the other hand, he doesn't dismiss them outright musically and sees their potential. When it comes to music, his review echoes another one from one of the English language bloggers, a classically trained musician, who gave very high marks to DG and CS but didn't think that much of CL and LI. Maybe that's how it appears to a musically trained ear and, maybe, Yonghwa choose to heavily promote these two songs for that very reason. But it looks like the clouds are starting to lift for them, finally. It was a brave and unusual choice, but it paid off.
