2010 Pati Pati, ELLE Japan, You Music ~ About "I don't know why"
Pati Pati 2010 Oct -- “I don’t know
why” is very interesting. It feels like it’s made mixing the best of different
genres of music. The creation process must have been interesting too. YH: It was a big
challenge, and that’s why we’ve been concerned about people’s reactions
(laughs). I’ve been trying out things with the synthesizer these days. I can
just key in some commands and hear how the different instruments sound like as a whole. -- The percussions
and guitar in the intro result in this Latin music feel. It’s very impressive.
Then the melody that follows varies much… What else did you pay particular
attention to composing the song? YH: Like you said,
I’ve paid attention to the intro and the main melody. Besides, though we are a
band, I want to make the studio-record kind of music too. So I also compose
songs which are more complex. This particular song is showing the kind of thing
I’ve been pursuing. -- The lyrics of “I
don’t know why” are all English… Was it a challenge too? YH: It’s
difficult to write in a language which is not my mother tongue, but I somehow find
that I can be freer expressing myself, showing a wider side of me. And
using English makes it feel closer to the kind of studio record I intend to
make. -- To reveal your
feelings honestly in your music, it seems everybody likes your style now. YH: I
usually can’t express what I’ve been thinking in my everyday life. So through
this song, I’m telling a lot of my thoughts about “love”. I used to feel
anxious … as I’ve said a lot in the song, the anxiousness is gone (laughs). (Based on Chin

don't know why] had been released. YH: I write and
compose the song [I don't know why]. I thought that I want to try doing what
I've never tried doing before and Sweden synthesizer had been popular to use
these days, so i experimented with that kind of style. It's a song that captures
the emotion after debut until now. (Eng translation

good at composing music and writing lyrics. “I don’t know why” was composed and
written by Yonghwa. YH: It was a rainy
day and I was at home thinking about a lot of things. Then I wrote the song.
The arrangement was to match the vibe of that day, and my emotions, too. In
order to show these perfectly, I used the synthesizer. (Based on Chin
translation from jungshinstar.com)

Thank you for this, Klaritia :)
It's always interesting to read how he wrote his songs..I hope you can do this to more YH's songs...if you have time ^___^ -
Thanks for translating and posting, klaritia!
While 'I don't know why' is not one of my fav compositions by him, I was happy to see him experiment, and it was really the starting point for his more complex and synthesizer infused compositions. His musical evolution, and I've been so privileged to have witnessed it. ^^ -
Thank you so much!! Never read these before.
I'm always eager to know the stories behind the songs he wrote/what he was thinking in the process of composing. It's a pity that most tv shows / radio interviews won't go too deep into such topics. -
This song is one of my favorite yonghwa's self composition. Thanks for the translation :)

Thank you for the translations. Anything on his inspiration for his compositions are always great. Just wish there were more of such interviews for each of his songs.
Suddenly I wanted to review what Yonghwa said about the songs he wrote.
