I was so happy reading this interview, imagining I saw YH when he's little, myself being the school kid in the next class admiring him when he walked in the corridor...
I really love this interview not because it confirms YH has been famous since he was little, but that YH has very beautiful memories he can carry along chasing his dream. Must have helped a lot.
Plus, this interview clarifies that YH has been very interested in music since his school days. He even started composing in school. I say this because there was a tv show which tried to portray that YH was not into music until he was scouted and began training in the agency. (Excuse me if I have the wrong interpretation of the show.) -
불쑥 자신의 과거를 알고 있는 사람이 나타 났을때 망설임 없이 `떳떳하다`라고 말할 수 있는 사람이 과연 몇이나 될까요? 과연 내스타 최고네요ㅎㅎ
-
"I was asked to be scouted in the first year of high school."
Thank U for this...getting to know more about our "Rascal Youth" Jung YongHwa ^___^ -
Thank you!

Thank you for the trans^^

매번 느끼지만 진정 다 가진 남자
그 중 최고는 인성!!! -
I liked being in front of people and getting attention.
You don't say! Really? :D Tell me something I don't know, Yonghwa lol (There's, of course, a difference between getting attention when you ain't got nothing to get it with and getting it when you have lots to offer and are naturally inclined to get more than others because of your personality)
For rock, I found that I can sing diverse tones.
Oh, I think he's got a diverse voice, period. Not just for rock, but in general. That's why songs sound so colorful in his interpretation. (It's like there are 50 shades of color to his voice ;) ) And the more I listen to some other performers, the more I become convinced.
I bet that girl in 3rd year had a showy voice, too :) Many do when they are at that stage.
If and when I meet him, I'll make sure to ask him why he thinks he's so handsome, whether he actually believes he's handsome, whether other people think he's handsome, whether he dreams of being on the cover of "People" as the most handsome man, and whether it's ok to bring up this topic for the nth time :)
Thanks so much for the translation!

In case anybody hasn't watched that video when he sang the duet (with a "showy" voice)

And when he was "bagbang" (but it got many views already...)

The dude's got some moves!!! Woohoo! :D
His voice is a chameleon, and I love that about it.

Thank you so much! Love him more and more ㅠㅠㅠㅠ

Some comments in the naver main version of this article that I thought were cute/heartwarming:

kkkk Do you know? Well you wouldn't know but since long time has passed, I can tell... In fact, I've sneaked into Namsan high school to see Yonghwa-ssi during the night self-study time. I heard it's the day that the homeroom teachers don't check attendance, and a friend who sings didn't attend that day so I arranged to sit in her spot but fatefully the school principal decided to come into the classroom that day and patted my head as I was pretending to study hard kkkkkk Everyone in the class had frozen at that moment...kkkkkkkk But when I passed the prison-like corridors and visited all the school snack bars, I still couldn't find Jung Yonghwa ssi...........
I'm someone who used to live in the same neighborhood, and my friend used to brag around saying she's close to Jung Yonghwa kkk Though she graduated from Guseo girl's middle school and Dongrae girl's high school, so she couldn't see him after elementary school kk I(?) saw him last year for the first time and admitted he's handsome kkk Jung Yonghwa-ssi was famous for being playful hehe This interview made me want to see my friends. I was the only one who came to Seoul among my friends for college and I've been lonely. I want to go to Busan and have a drink with my friends, I miss them TTTT I hope the writer stays friends with Jung Yonghwa-ssi for a long long time~~ It's so nice to meet a Busan friend in Seoul. I'm so jealous.

Thank you so much for translating these.
I always thought the tidbits about Yonghwa's school days can be great material for a youth drama or movie. This is such a cute confession. But at the same time, the interview really tells the beauty of friendship. Memories of my own school days flooding my head today too. -
And I really want to read this story again, translated by heich

Yes, I remember this PE exam story. This in-built remarkable character really surprised me!!
-
Of all the stories I've read about yonghwa, this one left the deepest impression. He's such an admirable and inspiring person!
-
Ahhh thank you so much!!!! i love this!! boy was born to be a star and he shinned bright at very young age.
-
this is such a nice read. thanks for sharing. i really admire and love yonghwa. he is very unselfish person. he always go down to his roots like meeting his old friend and school and i love how his been consistent with his dream. i personally love how he said he wanted join music with his juniors. i mean others might not want to age yet and wanted to savor more of their success and popularity alone. but instead, for him he wanted to share his success to others as well. we see on television branding them as best band and first band etc etc. this is such an honor and probably other bands might have huge head for this title but instead i see him saying he wanted other bands in korea to get recognized and promoted too. if we think it this way they might get competition if other bands emerges but no, he doesnt mind and rather anticipating of more bands to come. i really really admire this guy

thanks for the translation...happy to know more about Yonghwa^^

Wow, this definitely will go into my favourite interviews folder.
Loved the girl's questions and the overall comfy, friendly and sincere tone of the Q&A. I wonder if she is a journalist or if it was just a special feature.
It was nice how they went through school memories, his evolution into finding his love for music, his family and friends, his opinions on his voice, composing and directions for the future.*thanks for the trans =)

She's a journalist at TenAsia. :)

Thank you very much for the translation. It's heartwarming to read such accounts. That's why he is my bias.

기자님 트윗하셨네요ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
The writer tweeted:
I even revealed my identity for this interview kkk It was fun.
The most rewarding part of posting the interview as Jung Yonghwa's alum, our teacher from 1st year left a comment saying he/she is proud of both of us. My friends contacted me in a long time, saying they read the article. I feel like I experienced the positive influence of a star. Glad to see you again, kekeke.
^____________^

Positive influence of a star indeed. The way these school friends and even teachers expressed their being proud, in such a heart warming way.
I feel very proud too. It's like I have more confirmation that I really should like him
Sorry for commenting too much under the post. But my heart is all welling up~ -
Thank you for all the translations!!!!!! It is always so heartwarming to read such articles about Yonghwa. Humble is really his middle name. Regardless of his status & success, he never fails to credit his achievements to his family, fnc, boices & friends. He is a true role model indeed.

Thank you so much for the translation. Love interviews like these that give us an insight into how yonghwa was like before he got famous.
-
Could I say that I also experienced his positive influence. He is the shining star who healed my gloominess. I now like to witness his growth

I miss you all, you kids~!
Sujung, so you've become a journalist?!
My proud first students~^^
이건 또 많고 많은 실물후기중 하나ㅋ Just some random account I found in the comment section there...:)
Trans) I'm from Busan, but I moved to Daejeon. When I returned to my hometown in Busan, I met my friends and went to a sauna. On my way out, I saw some light shining in the entrance, so when I checked it out, a guy who was handsome even to a guy's eyes slowly walked toward me and the ladies around him, especially the cashier, opened their mouths and just stared at him... I put on my shoes and left, saying "He's so handsome, I'm jealous, hehe." Later, I saw him singing on TV. That was CNBLUE's Jung Yonghwa. kekekeke

OMG!!! This is by far the best interview of Yong for me with regards to his history prior to being a musician. This showed us such precious clues and glimpse on how he really was when he was still a Busan youngster. Thank you for translating this wonderful article. He's really such a precious person. Thanks for also translating the comments. He's a very responsible and admirable young man. I'm so gonna enjoy watching this young man develop and progress through the coming years. ^______^ THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
-
I always feel that it's his happy and carefree childhood in Busan that helped shape his beautiful mind. His deep roots and friendships developed in his youth gave him the solid foundation to face hardships and challenges, and strive for the better not just for himself, but for his band mates, his friends and his family. He is such a beautiful young man. By the way, I love it that he was a rascal in his school days....that explains so much his playful streak, LOL. Thanks for the translation.

What a great morning to start with this ENJOYABLE ARTICAL. Thank you for this trans. Get to know more about Jung Yong HWA. My mind is imagine as every sence of this young man at his younger age and running around. It sad to know that they let him in the group but not even give him a chance to perform. Those feeling can hunt for life. I glad that he got over it after the debut. And glad that he let down his mask and that how we get to know the POWERFUL JUNG YONG HWA!!!
Can't thank you enough to know and learn from this site about YongHwa -
Waahh.. I really love this article. Thank you so much for translating ^^.
It makes my heart more attached to his personal character for sure. He's a good guy, a playfull one even now on his 26 :). He is a great singer, no doubt. And I love the way his talk (conversation) with his old friend (in this case, the interviewer), he seems so live when talk about his past.
Thank you so much for translating this! ^^ -
It is so heartwarming to know the childhood days of Yong.despite of being famous now,he still remains humble and so friendly to everyone.he is really a rare gem.
