한 해에도 수많은 아이돌이 쏟아져 나오는 K-POP 시장에서 각 그룹은 자신만의 색깔로 어필하기 위해 사활을 걸고 있다. 팀을 이끄는 멤버가 누구냐에 따라 전체 이미지가 좌우되고, 그룹의 존폐가 갈리는 등 리더에게는 막중한 의무와 책임이 따른다. 가요계에서 성공한 아이돌을 살펴보면, 그 중심에 반드시 특색있는 리더가 있다. 이들을 통해 우리 시대가 진정 필요로 하는 지도자상을 그려볼 수 있지 않을까?
그룹의 개성만큼이나 다양한 리더십을 가진 아이돌 그룹의 리더들을 성균관대 시스템경영공학과 신완선 교수가 분석·정리한 책 ‘컬러 리더십(더난 출판사)’을 토대로 분류했다. 저자가 리더십을 7가지 무지개 색깔로 분류하고 각각 특징을 부여한 것에 현재 활동하고 있는 아이돌 그룹 중 가장 적합하다고 생각되는 리더를 예로 들어 정리해 보았다. 리더십은 여러 요소가 결합해 발휘되는 기질인 만큼, 리더는 반드시 어느 한쪽의 리더십에만 속하지 않고 여러 색에 걸친 특징을 보일 수 있다. 그러나 분류를 위해 한 카테고리 안에 넣었음을 미리 밝힌다.
장기적 비전으로 선도하는 이특-용화
카리스마가 넘치며 상황판단이 정확한 남색 리더는 ‘비전 리더’다. 이들은 자신이 올바르다고 생각하는 비전을 구성원들에게 자신감 있게 제시하며, 구성원 모두가 리더와 같은 방향으로 뛰게끔 유도한다. 또한 ‘성공은 공유할 때 유익하다’고 믿기 때문에 비전에 따른 성취를 구성원과 함께 나누는 특징을 보인다.

씨엔블루의 정용화는 성공을 구성원들과 함께 공유하는 리더다. 데뷔 초기 팀이 유명해지지 않아 혼자 활동을 많이 했던 그는 별다른 불평 없이 자신이 벌어온 수익을 나머지 멤버 셋과 똑같이 나누었다. 또한 그룹이 가야 하는 방향에 대해 명확하고 자신 있게 제시해 구성원들을 이끈다. 정용화가 직접 프로듀싱한 씨엔블루의 5번째 미니 앨범 ‘캔트 스톱(Can’t stop)에 대해 “씨엔블루의 음악적 방향성과 정체성을 기대해도 좋다”고 설명한 바 있으며, 이를 통해 팀에 대한 그의 확실한 비전을 엿볼 수 있다.

In the K-pop market where hundreds of idols debut every year, each group is striving to appeal with their own color. Depending on the leader of the team, the image and the success of the entire group is determined, placing important duty and responsibility on the shoulders of the leaders. When you examine the idols who succeeded in the music industry, there is always a distinct leader in the center. Perhaps we can portray the leader types that this generation truly needs through them?
We categorized the diverse leadership styles of each idol group's leader following the book by Professor Shin Wanseon of Sungkyunkwan Univ., Color Leadership. According to the the author's categorization of different styles of leadership into the seven colors of rainbow, we placed currently active idol groups' leaders to each appropriate ones. Since leadership is a skill that combines multiple elements together, leaders do not necessarily belong to only one type and can display attributes of different colors. We gave each person one color for the sake of categorization.
Leading with Long-term Vision, LT-Yonghwa
Full of charisma and accurate decision makers, indigo color leaders are "vision leaders". They confidently propose the vision they consider as rightful to the members, and leads the members to strive toward the same direction.
CNBLUE's Jung Yonghwa is a leader who shares his success with the members. In the early days after debut when the team was not well known, he divided the profit he earned equally with the members, without any complaint. Also, he clearly and confidently provides the direction the group needs to go and leads them. About CNBLUE's 5th mini album Can't Stop, produced by Jung Yonghwa himself, he explained "You may anticipate CNBLUE's musical direction and identity." Through this, we can observe his definite vision for the team.
