OECD 가입국 중 근무시간 1위를 달리는 나라답게 대부분 사람들은 여행을 가도 바쁘게 움직입니다.

 

“부지런히 돌아 본전을 뽑자!”

 

그래서인지 여행을 다녀오면 그런 질문을 받습니다. “어디 다녀왔어? 뭐 봤어?” 무엇을 느꼈는지보다 얼마나 많은 것을 보고 왔는지를 궁금해 합니다. 많은 생각보다 많은 구경거리를 안고 돌아온 것이 자랑거리가 됩니다. 그래서 여행은 보통 사진을 남기는 기록 이벤트가 됩니다. 그 부지런함과 본전정신의 정점을 찍은 것이 패키지 여행입니다.

 

아침 8시 집합, 저녁 6시 해산. 출근하듯이 모여 정신 없이 돌아다니다보면 퇴근시간이 됩니다. 하루 종일 뭔가 많이 본 것 같아 뿌듯하지만 몸은 피곤하고 내일 아침 일찍 모여야 하니 빨리 잠자리에 듭니다. 더 많은 옵션을 추가하면 극기훈련과 비슷합니다. 자유를 찾아 떠난 해병대 캠프가 되는거죠.

 

특히 패키지 여행은 ‘관계’가 형성됩니다. 한 팀이 되어 같은 버스를 타는 순간 서로 관여하고 싶지 않으나 관계를 맺게 되는 작은 사회가 만들어집니다.

 

그래서 패키지 여행 이야기를 하려고 합니다. 관계에서 멀어지고 싶으나 개인으로 존재할 수 없는 사회, 나와 내가 속한 세상에 대한 이야기입니다. 멈출 줄 모르고 달리기만 해야 살아남는 세상, 여행을 가도 무조건 달리기만 하는 일정, 그것들을 잠깐 멈춰야 내가 온 길이 보이고 갈 길이 보인다고 생각합니다.

Perhaps it's why we're faced with these questions when we return. "Where did you go? What did you see?" Rather than what we felt, people are curious about how many things we've seen. Instead of having pondered a lot, having seen many things become a source of pride. Usually, it turns travel into a recording event where one just takes photos. You meet at 8 am and disperse at 6 pm. You move about rapidly as if you're at work, then it's time to get off. It's fulfilling that you've seen many things all day, but your body aches, and because you need to gather early tomorrow morning, you go to bed right away. That's why we want to talk about a package trip. It's a story about a society in which we cannot exist as individuals despite wishing to move away from relationships. It's about us and the world where we belong -- the world where we must run restlessly to survive, to the point of rushing through travels. Only by pausing for a while, we are able to see the road we've come, and the road we must go on.
