【E】첫방 '미래의 선택' 정용화, 한층 성장했군요 'MHIYD' Premiere: Jung Yonghwa, You've Grown Up a Notch

남성밴드 씨엔블루 정용화가 또 한 번 연기 도전에 나섰다. 배우 이동건, 윤은혜와 호흡을 맞추게 된 KBS2 새 월화드라마 '미래의 선택'이 그것이다. 이동건에 대적하는 또 하나의 남자 주인공으로 나선 그는 한층 성숙된 연기력으로 첫 회부터 시청자들에게 눈도장을 찍었다.
정용화는 14일 오후 첫 방송된 '미래의 선택'(극본 홍진아, 연출 권계홍)에서 방송국 YBS 회장의 손자이자, 신입 VJ 박세주로 첫 등장했다. 재벌 3세의 신분을 속이고 위장 취업 중인 그는 전형적인 외유내강형, 부드럽고 조용하지만 내면에는 살벌한 기업인의 피도 흐르고 있는 인물이다.
지난 2011년 드라마 '넌 내게 반했어' 이후 약 2년 만에 안방극장을 찾은 정용화는 이미 연기력을 인정받았다. 하지만 앞선 작품을 통해서는 나이와 비슷한 연기를 해왔다면, 이번 작품은 실제보다 높은 연령의 캐릭터를 그려낸다. 때문에 한층 깊이있는 연기를 소화해야 하는 것.
첫 회 속 정용화는 박세주를 완벽하게 표현해냈다.
깔끔한 슈트차림으로 모습을 드러낸 그는 날카로운 눈빛과 싸늘한 말투로 쫓아다니는 여자를 내쳤다. 이 과정에서 속옷이 벗겨져 물 속에서 발버둥치고 있는 미래를 발견, 또 그런 그의 뺨을 때리는 큰미래까지 보게 된다. 이후 세주는 바다에 뛰어 든 미래를 보고 한 눈에 반한다.
이 과정에서 정용화는 궁금증 가득한 눈빛, 그리고 살짝 머금은 미소로 세주를 매력적인 캐릭터로 그려내는데 성공했다.
하지만 그는 금세 신입 VJ로 또 다른 일면을 드러냈다. 슈트 대신 간편한 복장에 카메라를 든 청년으로 변신한 것. 회장 손자라는 사실을 숨기고 YBS에 입사, 본격적인 언더커버보스로의 활약에 나섰다. 이 과정에서 신(이동건 분)과의 첫 만남이 이뤄져 향후 전개에 대한 궁금증을 높였다.
첫 회에서 캐릭터에 꼭 맞는 옷을 입은 것처럼 열연을 펼친 정용화. '미래의 선택'의 향후 전개와 더불어 그가 그려나갈 세주의 이야기에도 관심이 모아진다.

Male band CNBLUE's Jung Yonghwa's up for an acting challenge once again. It's "MHIYD", KBS2 M-T drama with actors LDG and YEH. As another male lead against LDG, he caught the viewers' eyes in the first episode with a much mature acting chops.

Returning to the small screen in 2 years after the 2011 drama "Heartstrings", JYH had already been recognized for his acting skills. But in his previous works, he acted characters in his age range, whereas in this one he's acting someone older. He needs to come through with a deeper performance.
In the first episode, JYH perfectly portrayed PSJ.
In a clean suit, he turns down a woman who comes after him with a sharp look and cold words. He finds MR who's struggling in the water with her bathing suit malfunction, and even witnesses the big MR slapping her face. He later falls in love with MR at first sight when she's in the ocean.
During this process, JYH successfully portrayed SJ as a charming character with curious eyes and a light smile.
But he soon showed another side as the rookie VJ. Instead of a suit, he wore casual clothing and held a camera. Hiding the fact that he's the CEO's grandson, he began his actions as the undercover boss. His first meeting with Shin heightened anticipation for what unfolds hereafter.
JYH excelled in his performance, as if he's wearing a perfect outfit for the character. As with the future progress of 'MHIYD', we look forward to Seju's story that he will potray from now on.

Thanks for the translations!
While I'm happy to read lots of comments in drama-blogs about how surprised they are by how well his acting is, I can't help but disagree that he has improved tremendously. Yong Hwa definitely improved from YAB to Heartstrings (he was a complete rookie in YAB), but his performance in MHIYD is of the same standard as his acting in HS, especially in the latter episodes. Granted Park Seju is a lot more animated than Lee Shin, but he showed the same layers of emotions in his portrayal of Lee Shin. Goes to show that some folks were just band-wagoning in their criticisms without actually watching his full performance in HS. -
