Jung Yong Hwa's "first-time" on the big screen

As the main vocalist of Korean famous boyband CNBLUE, Jung Yong Hwa has been well recognised for his singing. Lately he has taken up a new challenge and made his first big-screen appearance in movie Cook Up A Storm. Facing the language barrier and the superb cooking skills of his co-star Nicholas Tse, YH, who is not skillful in cooking at all, admits that he did feel nervous but at the same time learn alot from this movie, leaving him with so many unforgettable memories.

Playing a 3-starred famous chef Paul Ahn, YH filmed in Macau, Foshan and Prague with the crew, gaining brand new experiences. At the movie's promotional events in HK, he said, "It's my first time to visit Prague. The scenery there is so beautiful and food is nice too. Taking advantage of the rather relaxing filming schedule in Prague, I traveled around the city like a tourist for sightseeing and got sore legs." YH also adds that his favourite scene from the movie was filmed in Prague. "It's the scene that introduces my first appearance, shot in a very beautiful restaurant there. I do look like a real great chef in that scene so I really love it."

From 0 to 100 points

Being a green hand in cooking originally, YH has learnt many culinary skills and techniques through the filming. He even jokingly asked the reporters, "Why do eveyone think I can't cook at all? Though it's true indeed. I was totally not interested in cooking originally, so I paid lots of efforts to get well-prepared before the filming, like watching videos on the web. YH also appreciated Nic for teaching him patiently on set. By watching aside, he has learnt so many culinary techniques. Being asked to rate his own cooking skills, YH affirmingly gave 100 points without any hesitation. "I'm truly good at making pasta now. It tastes SO delicious, really!"

As for the No.1 loyal fan of this "Master Chef Newbie", it must be nobody else but  his mother. "I did make pasta for my mom but I put too many chilies. I had no idea  they could be this spicy. Although mom repeated it was too spicy when she was eating, she praised my cooking, saying it tasted really good."

Reveals being "Meat lover"

In terms of culinary skills, YH may still get rooms to improve. But speaking of food, he gets all excited and reveals that he's a "meat lover". "Although I can't really cook, I love eating all these kinds of delicious food. I'm especially fond of eating meats. I've tried dim sum, egg tart and milk tea in this HK trip. All of them taste so special and delicious."In addition to the wish of being a foodie traveling around the world eating, as a freshman to movies, YH also wishes to take up different types of roles. And what he wants to challenge the most is cops. "Cops look so cool. (Still prefers roles looking all handsome?) Sure. It's important to look handsome!" Looking back at the roles YH played in tv dramas, all are indeed very gentleman-like. It seems that YH loves to look all the way cool. Cool looks coupled with his great sense of humour, no wonder all these "fangirls" are falling for him.

Not ever forgetting music

Both YH and Nic were debuted as singers, did they take this chance to exchange views on music? YH said with pity, "Because of the hectic filming schedules and the culinary theme of the movie, we talked about food mostly during filming."Each CNBLUE member has been busy on their individual projects, when would they release new songs? YH said, "There's no specific plan or timing yet but we have been preparing always. Hope to come back as a musician as soon as possible." It seems that CNBLUE fans will have to wait for a longer while before hearing new songs from them.

정용화의 첫 스크린 진출

한국의 인기 보이밴드 씨엔블루의 메인 보컬로서 그동안 노래로 인정받아온 정용화는 최근 영화 '결전식신'을 통해 새로운 도전에 나섰다. 언어장벽과 사정봉의 요리 실력에 맞서 전혀 요리를 하지 못했기에 긴장이 되기는 했지만, 이번 영화를 통해 많은 것을 배우고 잊을 수 없는 추억을 얻었다고 한다.

정용화는 유명 3성셰프 폴 안을 연기하면서 제작진과 함께 마카오, 포샨, 프라하를 누비며 새로운 경험을 쌓았다. 홍콩에서 진행된 영화 홍보 행사에서 그는 "프라하를 처음 방문했는데, 경치가 너무 아름답고 음식도 맛있었어요. 비교적 여유로웠던 촬영 스케줄 덕분에 여행객처럼 다리가 아플 때까지 이곳 저곳 관광했습니다." 고 밝혔다. 또한 영화에서 가장 마음에 드는 장면 역시 프라하에서 촬영했다고. "제 첫 등장을 보여주는 장면인데, 그 곳의 아주 아름다운 레스토랑에서 찍었어요. 그 씬에서 정말 대단한 셰프처럼 보여서 정말 좋아하는 씬입니다."

0점에서 100점으로

처음에는 요리를 하지 못했기에, 영화를 촬영하면서 여러가지 요리 기법을 배웠다. 기자들에게 농담하며 묻기를, "왜 다들 제가 전혀 요리를 못할 거라고 생각하시죠? 사실이기는 합니다. 처음에는 전혀 요리에 관심이 없었기 때문에 촬영 전에 제대로 준비하려고 열심히 노력했어요. 인터넷에서 동영상을 보기도 했고요." 인내심을 갖고 현장에서 가르쳐준 사정봉에게도 감사를 표했다. 옆에서 지켜보는 것만으로도 아주 많은 테크닉을 배웠다고. 스스로의 요리 실력을 평가해달라는 주문에 거침없이 100점을 주는 용화. "파스타를 진짜 잘 만듭니다. 정말 맛있어요!"

이 '신참 마스터 셰프'의 가장 충성도 높은 팬은 그의 어머니일 거다. "어머니께 파스타를 만들어 드렸는데, 고추를 너무 많이 넣었나봐요. 그렇게까지 매울 줄 몰랐는데. 어머니가 드시면서 너무 맵다고 하셨는데, 그래도 정말 맛있다고 칭찬해 주셨어요." 

'고기 사랑' 밝혀

요리실력이라면 아직 더 늘 수 있겠지만, 음식을 즐기는 것에 관해서는 신나서 고기를 좋아한다고 밝혔다. "요리는 잘 못하지만, 여러 종류의 맛있는 음식을 먹는 것은 아주 좋아해요. 특히 고기를 좋아하죠. 이번 홍콩 여행에서는 딤섬과 에그타르트, 밀크티를 먹었어요. 전부 특별하고 맛있었습니다." 세계를 돌며 식도락 여행을 하고 싶다는 소망과 함께, 영화계 신인이기도 한 그는 다양한 역할도 해보고 싶다고 한다. 가장 도전해보고 싶은 역할은 경찰. "경찰분들이 참 멋진 것 같아요. (아직은 멋진 역할을 선호하나요?) 그럼요. 멋지게 보이는 건 중요하죠!" 그가 연기한 드라마 역할들을 돌이켜보니 다들 신사적이긴 하다. 용화는 늘 멋진 모습을 선보이려 하고, 거기에 훌륭한 유머감각까지 덧붙여지니 이렇게나 많은 팬들이 그에게 반하는 건 당연한 일이다.

언제나 잊지 않는 음악

정용화와 사정봉 두 사람 모두 가수로 데뷔했는데, 음악에 대한 이야기를 나누기도 했을까? 용화는 아쉬워하며, "촬영 스케줄이 빠듯했고, 요리 영화이기 때문에 촬영 중에는 주로 요리 이야기를 했어요"라고. 씨엔블루 멤버들은 각자 개인활동에 바쁜데 신곡은 언제 발매할 예정인지 묻자, "아직 확정된 계획이나 시기는 없지만 언제나 준비하고 있어요. 빠른 시일 내로 컴백하려고 합니다"라는 용화. 씨엔블루 팬들은 신곡을 듣기까지 조금 더 기다려야 할 것 같다.
