"I had worried for Jung Yong-hwa, because, well, I’d watched all his dramas. I did like him much better in Mi-rae’s Choice than in his previous roles, where I found him duller than dishwater, but I still wanted more life from him—his Mi-rae role was nice, but still bland for all that. So I find it such a relief that he’s holding his own as the D’Artagnan role, bringing forth the character’s naivety and exuberance in an endearing way. I still see holes in his performance here and there, but as a whole he’s done a much more effective job of channeling energy, and I found his moment of heartbreak downright moving."

I don't find YH portrayal of the characters in YAB, HS or MHIYD dull but I do think the story could be better written. Like any actor, there is a need to hone the acting skills. I am happy finally YH is involved in a drama with much better dialogue and story, and working with veteran actors, director & production staff. Hopefully, I will see him in a movie in the near future too ... me greedy fan ... kkk!

I still find reviewers who criticise his acting in his previous roles as missing the point of the characters he was portraying. If memory serves me right, Shin Woo was supposed to be good tempered, reserve and calm, Lee Shin was supposed to be a cool dude not interested in anything except music. Hence these 2 characters are not supposed to be lively or noisy and hence how YH portrayed them was with the right amount of reserve energy.
Of course there is always room for improvement in anything one does and I am happy that with each character he portrays, he shows improvement and maturity in leaps and bounds and that is what matters.
