이디야커피·이바돔감자탕 등 브랜드 인지도 올라

커피·외식전문점 등 프랜차이즈 업계가 간접광고 즉 'PPL효과'를 톡톡히 보고 있다. 드라마나 영화 속 주인공을 통해 상품이나 브랜드를 자연스럽게 알릴 수 있고 더 나아가 작품이 해외로 수출될 경우 외국인 한류 팬까지 끌어들일 수 있기 때문이다.

1일 업계에 따르면 드라마나 영화를 통해 상품 또는 브랜드를 간접광고하는 협찬기업이 늘고 있다. PPL이 비용 대비 높은 효과를 낸다는 평가를 받고 있기 때문이다.

이 때문에 최근 인기 드라마의 경우에는 방송 앞뒤로 제공되는 광고보다 오히려 협찬기업의 수가 더 많아지는 추세다.

대표적인 것이 드라마 속 공간이 특정 브랜드의 매장이 되는 것이다.

최근 이디야커피 서울 선릉 본점에는 최근 일본인 고객들의 방문이 부쩍 늘고 있다. 이디야커피가 제작 지원했던 드라마 '넌 내게 반했어'가 지상파방송인 후지TV를 통해 일본 전역에 방영된 후에 일어난 일이다. 이 드라마는 씨엔블루 정용화와 박신혜가 주연으로 출연했다.

드라마에서 나온 이디야커피 매장이 일본 잡지에 소개되면서 이를 보고 매장을 찾는 일본인 고객들도 꾸준히 늘고 있다. 이디야커피는 일본인 고객을 위해 드라마 브로마이드를 선물로 제공하기도 했다. 또한 정용화가 앉았던 자리를 표기해 일본인 관광객들이 기념촬영을 할 수 있도록 해놨다.

이디야 커피 관계자는 "드라마가 종영한 지 1년이 지났지만 일본에서의 방영과 잡지에 소개가 되면서 일본인 관광객들이 꾸준하게 매장을 방문하고 있다"면서 "매장을 방문하는 일본인들이 그들이 마셨던 메뉴를 시키거나 MD 상품 등을 구매해 매출 증대 효과로 이어지고 있다"고 설명했다.

Franchises such as cafes and restaurants are seeing dramatic effects of indirect advertising, also known aas "product placement (PPL)". They can easily raise awareness of a brand or a product through characters in dramas or movies, and if the shows are exported overseas, even foreign hallyu fans can be attracted.

According to an industry insider, there is an increasing number of sponsors that indirectly advertise their products or brands as PPL is considered to produce more cost-effective results.

Because of this, popular dramas nowadays tend to have more sponsors within the shows than the advertisements aired before and after the program. A representative of this trend is having a store of a specific brand as the setting of the drama .

There's a brand that saw the 'Hallyu star effect' through a drama PPL.

Recently, there's a rush of Japanese customers at the Ediya Coffee's main store in Seollung. This happened after "Heartstrings," a drama that Ediya Coffee sponsored, was aired all over Japan through a broadcast network, Fuji TV. CNBLUE's Jung Yong Hwa and Park Shin Hye starred as the lead actors of this drama.

Since this Ediya Coffee shop was introduced in a Japanese magazine, more and more Japanese customers have been visiting the place. Ediya Coffee provided the drama's posters for the Japanese customers, and even marked the seat that Jung Yong Hwa had sat for them to take pictures.

An associate at Ediya Coffee explained, "Although it has been more than a year since the drama ended, Japanese customers are continuously visiting the shop after its broadcast and the publication of magazine articles in Japan. They would order the same menu the characters had or buy merchandises, effectively leading to increased sales."
