CNBLUE 역사상 가장 격렬한 노래라 해도 과언이 아닐 이번 작품에 대해서, 네 사람의 생생한 목소리로 전해드리겠습니다

파격적인 변화-.

CNBLUE가 8월 1일에 발매한 오랜만의 싱글은 멤버 본인들도 그렇게 표현할 정도로 강렬한 임팩트를 갖고 있는 작품이다.

얼터너티브락을 그들풍으로 승화시켜 놓은 듯, 듣는 이를 압도해오는 소리들로 가득한 일본 세번째 싱글 [come on].

타이틀곡을 필두로, 다채로운 음악이 전개되고 있는 이번 작품은, 싫든 좋든 다음 앨범에서의 그들의 진화된 모습을 예감케 한다.

맞아요. 말하자면 “파격적인 변화”라고 할 수 있죠.

- 타이틀곡 [come on]을 비롯, 이번에도 CNBLUE다운 다채로운 작품으로 만들어졌다는 점이 인상적입니다.

본인들도 충분히 보람을 느끼고 있지 않나요?

민혁 : 네! 3곡 모두 다른 매력이 묻어나게끔 잘 완성된 것 같아요.

정신 : [come on]은 지금껏 싱글 타이틀곡과 비교해서, 하드하고 매니악한 요소가 많이 포함되어 있어서 저희 음악의 폭이 한층 더 넓어진 작품이 된 것 같아요.

종현 : [come on]은 특히, CNBLUE가 지금껏 만나지 못했던 색을 갖고 있달까,

저희는 항상 음악적으로 도전해 나가고 싶고, 그 도전을 통해서 여러 장르의 음악을 표현할 수 있게 되었으면 좋겠다고 생각하고 있는데, 그런점에서 이번에는 그 의미가 무척 깊은 작품인 것 같아요.

용화 : 맞아요. 말하자면 “파격적인 변화”라고 할 수 있죠.

- 확실히 지금까지의 락넘버와는 다른 감각이 있는 것 같아요.

인트로의 라우드한 기타만 봐도 임팩트가 강렬한데, CNBLUE 곡 중에서도 1,2위를 다투는 파워풀함이 있는 것 같네요.

종현 : 맞습니다. 곡의 첫머리부터 다같이 소리지르며 신나게 달릴 수 있는 곡으로 하고 싶었어요.

그리고 방금 말씀드린 “변화”라는 컨셉처럼, [come on]은 “다 덤벼!”라는 말 그대로, 그 어떤 것도 두려울 것이 없다는 저희들의 도전 정신을 표현하고 있달까요.

용화 : 그렇죠. [come on]은 지금 저희들의 정렬과 열망을 그린 곡이죠.

세상사를 부정적으로 생각할 때도 있지만, 전 그걸 그대로 표현하지 않아요.

제가 좋아하는 단어는 “빛”이거든요.

어두컴컴할 때, 빛이 보이면 굉장히 행복해지니까요.

- 그런 기분이, 바로 가사에 표현되어 있는거군요… “The darks cover me”라고 하는 서두의 한구절에는 “어둠”에서 “빛”으로 향하고자 하는 자세가 그려져 있다고 할까요.

용화 : 그렇죠. 암흑속에서 빛이 보이면 행복해지긴 하지만, 빛만 있다고 해서 행복해질수 있는가 하면 그건 또 아니거든요.

빛이 너무 강해도 이번에는 눈부셔서 눈을 제대로 뜰 수 없게 되죠.

그러니 그늘도 필요해요. 전 땅에 드리워진 제 그림자를 보면, 그것이 진짜 제 모습이 아닐까 하는 생각도 합니다.

- 그럼, 그 “빛”과 “그늘” 에 각자 어떤 이미지를 갖고 계시는지?

종현 : “빛”은 “하늘”, “그늘”은 “저”요.

정신 : “빛”은 저희들의 “미래”, “그늘”은 저희가 걸어왔던 “과거”… “저희가 쉴 수 있는 곳”같은 느낌?

용화 : “그늘”은 “치유받는 곳”. 강렬한 “빛”이 뜨겁고 눈부실 때면 전 그늘을 찾아요.

진정한 행복이란 그럴 때, “그늘”을 만나게 되는 것 아닐까요.

민혁 : 음..”그늘”이 존재할 수 있는 이유는 “빛”이 있기 때문이라고 생각해요.

힘들어서 포기하고 싶을 때는 희망이 있으니까 그렇게 느끼는거라고 전 항상 제 마음속에서 생각하고 있거든요.

- [wake up]의 댄서블하고 락적인 사운드도 지금까지의 곡과는 다른 신선한 감각인 것 같네요.

용화 : [wake up]은 가사에 약간 빈정대는 내용을 담거나 해서 재미있게 제작에 임했어요.

이 가사는 지금까지와는 다른 스타일로 써 보고 싶었는데, 가사에 담긴 내용이 제 본심일수도 있고, 혹은 제가 이 가사의 주인공일지도 모르겠네요.

스스로를 믿는것도 중요하지만, 겸손이라는 요소가 빠져서도 안된다라는 메시지를 넣었어요.

전 그런 겸손한 사람을 좋아하기도 하고, 그리고 그런 사람이 되고 싶기도 하거든요.

- 그럼, 다음은 [wake up]이라는 주제로, 아침 잠투정이 심한 사람은 누구?(웃음)

종현 : 정신이?(웃음)

정신 : (웃으며) 오히려 민혁이?

민혁 : 다들 잠투정은 잘 안하는 편인 것 같아요.(웃음)

용화 : 그러게.. 그런건 변함이 없는 것 같아.

- [my miracle]은 어쿠스틱 사운드가 특색인 발라드. 첫번째와 두번째곡과는 분위기가 완전히 다른 것도 CNBLUE 답다고 할 수 있네요.

정신 : 네. 처음에 말씀드린 것처럼, [come on], [wake up]그리고 [my miracle] 이렇게 세 곡은 전부 다른 색을 갖고 있죠.

그래서 한곡 한곡의 색깔에 맞게끔 연주하려고 노력했어요.

민혁 : 그 곡의 세계에 빠져들어서 연주하는 것도 유의해서 말이죠.

종현 : 맞아요. [my miracle]은, 그야말로 가사를 가슴으로 느끼면서 연주한 곡입니다. 가사가 기승전결로 확실하게 전개된다는 점도 이 가사의 포인트이구요.

용화 : [my miracle]은 가사를 통해서 사람과 사람이 만난다는 것은 기적에 가까운 것이라는 걸 전하고 싶었어요.

몇억의 사람이 살고 있는 이 세상에서, 어떻게 해서 그 사람과 만나게 되었을까.

말로는 설명할 수 없는 신기한 기분, 즉 “사랑”은 기적 중의 기적이라고 전 생각해요.

사람과의 만남이란, 길을 걷다가 다이아몬드를 줍는 것과 마찬가지이지 않을까요?

- 그리고 일본에서의 메이저 첫번째 앨범도 드디어 발매되죠. 10월에는 아레나투어도 결정되었구요.

마지막으로 오래간만에 갖게 되는 일본 활동에의 각오를 말씀해주시죠.

종현 : 조금만 있으면 여러분들과 만날 수 있습니다. 기다려 주세요!

정신 : 오래간만입니다! 앨범이 어떤 느낌인지는 저희의 어설픈 설명보다 곡을 직접 들어보시는게 더 빠를 것 같네요.(웃음)

민혁 : 좋은 곡과 좋은 라이브로 다시 여러분들과 만날 수 있도록 열심히 하겠습니다!

용화 : CNBLUE의 음악은 “음악 그 자체”로 즐겨주셨으면 합니다.

저희의 음악은 “음학(音學)”이 아니거든요.

여러분들께 들려드리고 싶은 음악은 앞으로도 셀 수 없을 만큼 많이 나올겁니다.

그러한 긴 여행 속에서, 저희 앨범은 맛있는 음식들이 즐비한 휴게소 같은 존재죠.(웃음)

여러분들이 저마다 각자가 좋아하시는 곡을 들으시고 즐겨주시는 것, 그것이 바로 저희들이 지향하고 있는 음악입니다.

이런 miracle이 있었으면 좋겠다!

종현 : 서른이 되어도 이 모습 그대로 있었으면 좋겠다.

정신 : 서른, 마흔이 되어도 지금 멤버와 계속해서 CNBLUE로 함께 하는 것.

민혁 : 차와 긴~~~~ 휴식!

용화 : 여행가가 되어, 여러 나라를 자유롭게 여행할 수 있는 기적이 일어났으면 좋겠어요!

현지에서 곡을 만들고, 그 자리에서 바로 녹음부터 마스터링까지 끝내고, 여행을 할 때마다 한 곡씩 손에 넣을 수 있는 그런 기적이 일어났으면 좋겠네요.

The lively voices of four members will deliver the story behind perhaps the fiercest song in CNBLUE’s history.

“Astonishing Change”

CNBLUE’s long awaited single released on Aug. 1 has an intense impact, as described in their own words. Transforming alternative rock in their own distinct style, CNBLUE’s third Japanese single, “Come on” is full of sounds that overpower the listeners. Starting with the title track, the diverse style of music unfolded in this work allows one to anticipate further evolution in their next album.

-It’s impressive that, including the title track “Come on”, (the single) consists of diverse works that exhibit CNBLUE’s style. All of you must be quite proud of it.

MH: Yes! I think that all three songs were finished superbly in distinct ways.

JS: Compared to previous title tracks, “Come on” includes many hard and off-mainstream elements, further broadening our range of music.

JH: You could say that “Come on” has a style that CNBLUE had not yet encountered. We always want to continue our challenge in music, and to express many genres of music through that challenge. I think this song is very meaningful in that sense.

YH: Yes. It’s an “astonishing change”.

-It definitely has a different feel to it compared to your previous rock numbers. The loud guitar in the intro itself has such an intense effect that in terms of powerfulness, it’s perhaps in the top 2 among CNBLUE’s songs.

JH: That’s right. I wanted to make the song that everyone can shout together and run wild from the beginning. Also, like the concept of “change” that we just mentioned, the literal message of “Come on!” expresses our spirit of fearless challenge.

YH: True. “Come on” is about our passion and desire. There are times when I have negative views about reality, but I choose not to express such thoughts directly. My favorite word is “light”, because when it’s pitch dark, finding light can make one very happy.

-Indeed, such feelings are are expressed in the lyrics. The phrase “The dark covers me” in the intro seems to show your attitude to face the “light” from “darkness”.

YH: Yes. But although seeing light in the dark can make one happy, having the light only doesn’t suffice. If the light is too strong, it’s too bright to even open your eyes. That’s why we also need the shade. Sometimes when I see my own shadow on the ground, I wonder if that’s my real self.

-Then, what are your impressions about that “light” and “shade”?

JH: “Light” is the sky, and “shade” is “me”.

JS: “Light” is “our future”, and “shade” is the “past” that we have walked thus far…”the place where we can rest”?

YH: “Shade” is where I’m healed. When the intense rays of “light” are hot and burning, I seek the shade.

MH: Hmm…I think the reason “shade” exists is because there is “light”. I always think in my heart that when it’s hard and you want to give up, it’s because there’s hope.

-The danceable rock sound in “Wake up” also seems quite different from your songs so far, it’s something new.

YH: I had fun working on “Wake up”, inserting some sarcasm in the lyrics. I wanted to try a different style with the lyrics this time. It could be telling what’s in my heart, or I could be the subject of the song. The message is that although it’s important to believe in yourself, you shouldn’t lose humility. Not only do I like people who are humble, I also want to be such a person.

-The next topic is then “wake up”; who’s the worst at waking up in the morning? (laughs)

JH: Jungshin? (laughs)

JS: (laughing) Rather, Minhyuk?

MH: I don’t think anyone has a hard time waking up.

YH: Yeah…I don’t think there’s much difference.

-”My miracle” is an acoustic based ballad. Its completely different tone from the preceding two songs can be considered CNBLUE-esque, so to speak.

JS: Right. As we said before, the three songs “Come on”, “Wake up”, and “My miracle” all have different styles. So we tried to play them according each of their specific styles.

MH: I paid attention to getting immersed into the world within each song.

JH: Yes. “My miracle” is a song that I really felt the lyrics in my heart while recording. The key point of the lyrics is that the story is developed in stages.

YH: Through the lyrics of “My miracle”, I wanted to convey that the encounter between one another is almost like a miracle. In the world where billions of people live, how did I meet that person? It’s such a wonderous feeling, indescribable in words. In other words, “love” is a miracle of all miracles. Isn’t meeting such a person just like coming across a piece of diamond on the road?

-Your first major album in Japan is due soon and the Arena Tour is coming up in October. Please share with us your remarks for the long awaited activities in Japan.

JH: We’ll see all of you soon. Please look forward to it!

JS: It’s been a while! I think you can better grasp what our album is like by listen to our songs rather than hear our poor explanation. (laughs)

MH: We’ll work hard to meet you again with good songs and good performances!

YH: I hope you would enjoy CNBLUE’s music just as “music”, because our music isn’t music”ology”. There will be countless songs that we’d like to share with you. In that long journey, our albums are like the rest areas with lots of delicious food. (laughs) We seek to make music so that you can find the songs you like and enjoy them.

-I want a miracle like this!

JH: I want to stay the way I am even when I turn 30.

JS: I want to continue to be CNBLUE with the same members, even when we turn 30 and 40.

MH: A car and a long~~~~ vacation!

YH: The miracle I want to come true is for me to become a traveler, who can freely travel around many countries! I wish I could write songs in each place, finish recording and mastering at the same place, so that I could acquire one song at every stop.
