[안상욱] 정용화의 이름을 앞세웠지만, Jason Mraz가 여전히 떠오르는 그루브 실린 담백한 연주는 씨엔블루의 곡이라 해도 어색하지 않다. YDG의 랩 또한 잘 녹아들며 분위기를 하나로 모아주는 역할을 한다. 선공개 싱글임을 감안한다면 과거 자신이 갖는 이미지를 적절한 선에서 재활용하는 보수적이면서 나쁘지 않은 선택으로 보인다. 하지만, 앨범 내에서 「Mielage」는 다른 곡에 비해 좀 많이 튀는 것처럼 들린다. 더불어, 의욕적인 피쳐링진의 등장은 본인의 취향이 명확하지 않거나 회사의 목소리가 예상외로 크다는 점을 역설적으로 증명한다. (어느 부분의 지분이 많은지는 사실 알 수 없다.) 이는 A&R의 통일성 확보 문제로 귀결되는데, 오랜 아이돌 음악 수집가의 경험상 어느 기획사에서든 자사 아이돌 멤버의 '첫번째' 솔로 앨범을 기획할 때 꼭 이렇게 '절정 뮤지션 이미지'를 씌워주고 싶은 의리에서 발생하는 것이 아닐까 싶다. 정용화 정도면 조금 천천히 길게 봐도 될텐데 말이다. 어느새 데뷔 5년차. '뮤지션 정용화'라는 보다 확실한 이미지 메이킹이 필요하다는 관행적 의사 결정이 주로 발생하는 시기라는 점을 염두에 두면서 듣기를 권한다. ★★☆

 

[열심히] 가벼운 기타 터치 위로, 어쿠스틱 악기로 구성된 모든 트랙들이 일정 이상으로 데시벨을 높이지 않는 잔잔한 싱글입니다. 아무래도 Jason Mraz 생각이 안 날 수 없는 싱글이기도 하고요. 곡을 쓰고 부른 당사자도 레퍼런스와 굳이 의식적으로 거리를 두지는 않습니다. 덕분에, 가볍고 편안한 톤의 보컬이나 제 갈 길 가는 양동근의 참여 폭도 자연스럽고요. 다만, 익숙한만큼 기억에 남는 파트나 멜로디에 대한 아쉬움은 남습니다. 만드는 당사자는 모범답안을 쓰듯 만들었을 것 같은데, 막상 듣는 사람의 즐길거리나 ‘인상’을 남기는 데에는 인색한 곡. ★★☆

[An Sangwook] Although it’s spearheaded by Jung Yonghwa’s name, the groovy and simple instrumentation that’s still reminiscent of Jason Mraz can pass as CNBLUE’s song. YDG’s rap complements nicely, functioning to focus the tone of the track. Considering that this is a pre-release, it’s not a bad choice as it recycles his previous images at an appropriate, conservative level. But within the album, “Mileage” seems to stick out a little too much. Also, the enthusiastic cast of featuring artists conversely proves that either his preferences aren’t clear, or the agency’s voice is unexpectedly louder (in fact, it’s unknown which part is more significant). This results in the problem of (*dis)unity in A&R (*artists and repertoire). As a long-time idol music collector, my guess is that any agency that’s producing their idol member’s “first” solo album tends to stick to creating the image of “musician at his peak.” But with someone like Jung Yonghwa, perhaps they can take longer and slower steps. I suggest that you listen to it considering how he’s already at his 5th year since debut, the period in which creating a definite image of  “musician Jung Yonghwa” is considered conventionally necessary in their decision-making process. ★★☆

[Yulshimhi] On top of the light touch of guitars, all the tracks played by acoustic instruments don’t increase their decibels above a certain level. It’s a single that won't fail to make one recall Jason Mraz. The composer and the vocalist of the song doesn’t necessarily take conscious distance from the reference, either. The light and comfortable tone of vocals, and the scope of participation by Yang Donggeun, who goes his own way, is natural. Though it is something familiar, one is left wanting more of memorable parts or melodies. The composer likely wrote this thinking it's the model answer, but it’s less inclined to provide entertainment or leave an “impression” on listeners. ★★☆
