엘르 ELLE 2014.03 용화 부분 Yonghwa's parts

달빛을 닮은 향기를 풍기는 네 명의 남자가 수상한 기운이 감도는 비밀 저택에 모였다. 그들은 서로를 아는 것 같기도 하고 전혀 모르는 것 같기도 하다. 스쳐가는 눈빛, 뿌연 담배 연기와 위스키, 어딘가 섹시한 일탈의 향기가 풍기는 가운데 그들은... 본디 이것은 오늘 씨엔블루 화보 촬영의 컨셉트였다. 그런데 실상은? 단체 컷을 위해 옷을 갈아입고 정원으로 나온 멤버들의 눈길은 통통하게 여문 달이 뜬 밤하늘로 향한다. "어, 저기 달 옆에 동그란 게 뭐지?" "헉, UFO 아니야?" "토성처럼 생겼다!" "그게 말이 되냐?" 한 마디씩 툭툭 보태지는 말들이 마치 싱거운 코미디의 한 장면 같다. 그러나 오해하지 말길. 생 로랑과 랑방 수트를 완벽히 소화한 이 남자들이 우습다는 건 결코 아니니까. 넷에게서 풍겨나오는 친밀함과 자연스러움에 대해 말하는 거다.

데뷔 5년차 밴드 씨엔블루가 새 앨범 Can't Stop 발매를 앞두고 엘르와 조우했다. 그들을 처음 대면한 포토그래퍼 목정욱이 낮은 목소리로 말한다. "다들 느낌 좋은데요?" 스태프 중 한 명이 덧붙인다. "그렇죠? 보통 아이돌이랑 좀 다르죠?"

2010년 데뷔한 씨엔블루는 비슷한 시기에 쏟아져 나온 보이그룹과 사뭇 다른 정체성을 지녔다. 아이돌이기 전에 '밴드'라는 정체성. 무대 위에서 그들은 화려한 군무를 추는 대신 기타와 드럼을 들었다. 그런 그들이 처음으로 불렀던 '외톨이야'는 아직까지도 가장 '중독성 강한' 데뷔 곡 중 하나가 아닐까. 이후에도 씨엔블루는 가요계 안팎으로 순조로운 행보를 이어가며 행운의 여신의 특별한 사랑을 받는 것처럼 보였다. "맞아요. 데뷔하자마자 '빵' 떴죠. 천운이라고 생각해요." 이종현의 말에 고개 끄덕이며 공감을 표하는 멤버들 사이에서 정용화가 입을 연다. "하지만 그 자리를 단단히 다지고 더 올라가는게 우리의 숙제였고, 이를 위한 숨은 노력도 많았다고 생각해요." 

'쉽게 뜨고 쉽게 얻었다'는 시선들로 인해 불편했던 마음은 무엇보다 그의 자작곡 'One More Time'에 잘 드러나 있다. "겁도없이 나타나 괴물같이 차지했던 Number 1/ 나 사실은 부담 속을 헤엄쳐야 했었던 때도 있었어." 이런 상황에서 씨엔블루가 택한 방법? 긍정적인 마인드와 연습 그리고 연습! 'One More Time'은 다시 이렇게 이어진다. "현관문 들어서면 4번 울리는 내 뻐꾸기 시계/ 그 시간들이 거짓없이 자랑스럽게 벽돌들을 쌓았어."

지난해 네 남자는 씨엔블루 역사상 가장 도전적이고 중대한 한 해를 보냈다. 14개국 18개 도시에서 열린 총 20회의 월드 투어를 성공적으로 치러낸 것. 2014년 설 연휴도 지구 반대편, 마지막 월드 투어 장소였던 산티아고에서 맞이했다. 콘서트 이야기가 나오자마자 멤버들의 목소리에 작은 흥분이 더해진다. (중략) "K팝이 사랑받는 시대에 태어난 것 그리고 우리 앞에 있던 선배님들께 더울 감사하는 마음이 생겼죠."(용화) 지구 한 바퀴의 여정, 벅차 올랐던 가슴, 하나였던 시간들은 20대 한복판을 통과하는 남자들에게 측량할 수 없는 부피의 자신감을 불어넣었을 것이다. 그리고 그 자신감은 앞으로 펼쳐질 새로운 무대에서 모두에게 확인되겠지. 가득 차오른 달빛을 막을 수 없는 것처럼.

CNBLUE debuted in 2010, but they are very different from other boy groups that poured out around that time. Though they are idols, they have foremost identity as a band. Instead of glamorous dances, they appeared on stage with guitars and drums. Just like that, they performed “I'm a loner” for the first time. Up till now, it remains one of the most intoxicating debut songs. They walked a very smooth road in and out of the Korean music scene since debut. Goddess of Luck seems to show favoritism towards them, too. "That's right. We instantly shot to stardom after we debuted. I think it was a jackpot." In the middle of members who are nodding and agreeing with JH, Jung Yonghwa opens his lips. "However, our task was to strengthen our position and rise higher, and there was a lot of hidden effort we undertook for this goal." 

This frustration toward viewing them as "rising to fame easily and earning everything easily" is fully revealed in his self-composed song "One More Time”. “Fearlessly appeared and like a monster, we won Number 1. In fact, sometimes I had to swim under pressure.” How did CNBLUE choose to face such circumstances? Positive thinking. Practice. And practice!  That’s how "One More Time" continues on like this. “When I step inside the door, my cuckoo clock sounds four times. Those moments have proudly built the bricks without lies.” As such, many of the songs in CNBLUE's albums are created from the mind and the fingertips of the leader Jung Yonghwa. Though he's also known as an actor who has appeared in several dramas like You’re Beautiful and Marry Him If You Dare, it's a shame that much less people seem to know how much he loves music, and that he is such a talented singer-songwriter. As a star, the greatest charm that he's born with is his "gaze". Without glamorous group dance, one of the factors that makes the audience focus on CNBLUE's performance is his gazes. Jung Yonghwa is a man who can talk with those who he meets for the first time while looking straight into their eyes, and such men are not easy to find at all.

The four spent the most challenging and important year in CNBLUE’s history last year. They successfully held a world tour of 20 concerts covering 18 cities in 14 countries. In the lunar new year of 2014, they were in the other side of the globe wrapping up the world tour in Santiago. Members were all very excited when we began talking about the concerts. Yonghwa said, “I came to be more thankful for the fact that we're born in the period when K-pop is loved, and to the sunbaes who came before us.” The journey around the world, the overflowing hearts and the the time they spent together has created immeasurable volume of confidence in these four men passing through the middle of their 20's. And that confidence will be confirmed by everyone on the new stage that will unfold. Just as you can't stop the full moon's light.
